David's Bio

David Doerhoefer, a Vernon Hills resident since 1989, was elected to the Park Board in 2005.  As an involved community member, David has served on various Vernon Hills High School Parent committees, was a room parent for six years at Hawthorn Elementary School, athletic coach for the Park District’s basketball, baseball and softball programs, the GLSA soccer program, currently coaches Vernon Hills High School softball and Stingers travel fast pitch program and is employed with Grainger.

David’s passion for recreation and athletics led him to the position on the Park Board.  He wanted to give back to the community by providing his leadership and volunteering his time toward the stewardship of the environment in the Vernon Hills community.  In 2013, David was awarded the Vernon Hills “Person of the Year” award. In 2010, David was recognized by the Illinois Association of Park Districts with the “Rising Star Award”, an award given to Park Board members with less than 10 years experience who exemplify outstanding effort in the Parks and Recreation field.

 

David resides in Vernon Hills with his wife of 28 years, Joyce, with their two children Sara, teaching in Overland Park, Kansas and Eric attending the University of Missouri.  In David’s spare time, he enjoys golfing, coaching kids, and spending time outdoors with family and friends.

James Ballowe, Vice President

James' Bio
Jim Ballowe, a Vernon Hills resident since 1991, was elected to the Park Board in 2009.  As an involved community member, Jim currently serves on the Vernon Hills Planning and Zoning Board.  Jim is employed with the Lake County Forest Preserve.

Jim became involved with the Park Board because many of his responsibilities at the Forest Preserve mirror the Park District’s mission.  He believed that his business experience in the field would be an added value to the Park District.

Jim resides in Vernon Hills with his two children, Ashley and Trent.  In Jim’s spare time, he enjoys golfing.

Cindy Kessler, Commissioner

Cindy's Bio

Cindy Kessler, a Vernon Hills resident since 1989, was appointed to the Park Board in 2009.  As an involved community member, Cindy has volunteered through the years at Hawthorn Elementary school and Vernon Hills High School.  She has been a coach for the Park District and has taught classes at her church.

Cindy chose to become involved with the Park Board because she enjoys health and fitness.  She also wanted to become a member of a group that can make a difference in the community.

Cindy resides in Vernon Hills with her husband of 22 years, Steve, and their two children Mason and Duncan.  In Cindy’s spare time, she enjoys cycling, hiking, canoeing, and working out.

Mike Meline, Commissioner

Mike's Bio
Mike has been a resident of Vernon Hills since 2000.  He has been an active member of the community since he moved to Lake County in 1991.  He’s a Vernon Hills Lion, former President of the Lake County Association of Realtors, former Governor of the Civic Center Foundation of Libertyville, and has served on committees ranging from the Vernon Hills 4th of July Parade Committee to the Hawthorn Student Assistance Program.  He has coached T-ball, softball, soccer & basketball.

Mike got involved with the Park District for the same reason he has always tried to be involved with his community.  His parents taught him that “everyone needs to take a turn at the wheel”.

Mike lives in the Deerpath neighborhood with his wife, Sara and two daughters, Megan and Dana and enjoys spending his free time playing basketball, squash and watching his daughters grow up.

Bruce Robbins, Commissioner

Bruce's Bio
Bruce Robbins, a Vernon Hills resident since 2007, was appointed to the Park Board in 2009.  As an involved community member, Bruce is Chairman of the Behavioral Committee on the Illinois CPA Society Ethics Committee, Director of his Condominium Board, and a board member of the Deerfield District 109 Education Foundation.

Bruce chose to become involved with the Park Board because he wanted to serve his community.

Bruce resides in Vernon Hills with his wife of 32 years, Sandra. Bruce has three adult children; Joel, Lauren, and Jordan.  In Bruce’s spare time, he enjoys tennis, running and cheering on the White Sox.
