The Vernon Hills Park District offers outdoor swim lessons at its Family Aquatic Center and indoor swim lessons at Lakeview Fitness Center. Lessons are taught following the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim guidelines. Each class teaches both swimming and water safety skills. Upon successful completion of each level, swimmers will receive a Vernon Hills Park District Certificate of Participation and an American Red Cross certificate.
Parent & Tot
This 30-minute class is for children, ages 6 months to 4 years, with a parent. Parent & child will be exposed to water adjustment activities and experience supported movements in a fun and enjoyable manner. This program is designed to let children have fun in the water through games and activities while developing swimming readiness.
This 30-minute class is for children, ages 3-4 years old. The child will develop comfort in and around the water in preparation for learning how to swim. A variety of games, songs, and activities are used to teach water safety skills.
Swim Levels 1-5
The Learn-to Swim program includes 5 levels of progression in swimming techniques and water safety. Each level introduces a challenging variety of activities for the student.
Family Aquatic Center - Morning & evening classes meet for 45 minutes, Monday - Friday the first week and Monday through Wednesday the second week for a total of 8 lessons per session. Four sessions are offered at the Family Aquatic Center in the summer months. Saturday classes meet for 8 weeks beginning in June. Class schedules can be found in the Summer Planner brochure.
Lakeview Fitness Center - Weekday evening classes and Saturday morning classes meet once per week for 8 weeks. Lessons are offered for all ages and abilities. Lessons are listed in the seasonal program brochures.
Adult Swim Lessons
This class is for adults who would like to learn how to swim, improve their skills or overcome their fear of water.
Private and Semi-private Lessons
Private and semi-private lessons are available for all ages in the morning or evening. Contact the Park District to schedule lessons.
