Capital Improvements

FY 2008/2009 (begins June 1, 2008) Capital Improvement Projects

1.  Century Park Shoreline Stabilization - work continues on combating shoreline erosion in Big and Little Bear Lakes.  Work for the fall of 2008 will begin on the big island.

2.  Athletic Field Improvement - this is the third year of a five year plan to upgrade all Park District athletic fields.  Work this year will include drainage repairs and turf renovation at the Deerpath Park multi-purpose athletic field located along Deerpath Drive.  Work will also include the addition of new dugouts at Grosse Pointe Park.  In addition, the Park District is planning on contributing to additional improvements at the Vernon Hills Athletic Complex in 2008.

3.  Century Park North End Improvements - Plans for the north end of Century Park include a restroom building/warming house, new paths and playgrounds and shoreline improvements.  A public hearing allowing residents to comment on the proposed project was held in April.  As this is a state matching grant project, construction is not expected to begin until spring 2009. 4.  Pond Aerators - Evergreen Lake - Evergreen Lake in Deerpath Park will be the fourth lake to receive aerators in an effort to combat algae and other aquatic weeds and improve water quality in Park District detention ponds.  Work will be done in early summer.

5.  Westwood Park Improvements - new swings, installed to safety standards, a gazebo and connecting path will be added to Westwood Park this summer.

6.  Sullivan Center Improvements - new, energy efficient lighting will be added to the Sullivan Center gym and a new multipurpose hard surface floor will be installed in the Community Room, replacing the carpet currently in use.  In addition, two to three replacement rooftop HAVC units will be installed.  That will make five units replaced out of the nine original units.

7.  Family Aquatic Center New Attraction - this September, a new interactive water playground called a Sprayground or Splashpad will be installed at the Family Aquatic Center.  It will be located just west of the wet sand playground and will be open for use in May 2009.

Completion of all projects is based on the Park District receiving income from all designated sources.
