The 2010 Fields of Gold plantings will take place on Wednesday, September 8 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am. Students from Hawthorn School District 73 will plant daffodil bulbs in Peterson Park and on Aspen Drive near the Family Aquatic Center.
Parkland Improvement: The Park District is excavating and seeding the 2-acre parcel of green space, just south of the the Family Aquatic Center, for general open play use. There will be no amentities placed on the site. Work crews and grading machinery will begin to level out the area the week of August 16. The area will be available for use in late spring, 2011. Hawthorn School District 73 is contributing to the funding for this improvement and will use the site for physical education once complete.
Residents are invited to take free mulch for their gardening projects. The mulch is located in the Deerpath Park parking lot off of Cherokee Road and in the north parking lot of Century Park near the baseball fields.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources awarded the Park District a $400,000 OSLAD Grant for the renovation of the north end of Century Park. Click here to view the site plan.
