Vernon Hills Park District was selected as recipient of a Park and Recreational Facility Construction Program Grant (PARC) for the renovation of Lakeview Fitness. The District was awarded a PARC Grant of $2,247,700 to provide an addition and renovation to the existing facility.
Construction is scheduled to begin mid-April 2022 with a tentative completion date of October 2022. The indoor pool will remain open through April 2022, but will be closed from May-September. The facility, with the exception of the indoor pool, will remain open during construction.
- The addition will be more than 4,700-square feet and will include health/fitness, training, and support offices.
- The renovation includes locker room upgrades, a new indoor/outdoor group exercise rooms, and a new bathroom on the deck with changing rooms.
- The pool expansion includes a new ADA pool lift, added lap lanes, zero entry pool edge, spa upgrades, and added shallow-water spray features.
- The site work includes additional parking with expanded storm water detention facilities and an outdoor paved area.
Renovation of the indoor pool began. The play structures were removed as well as the existing tile floor.
An exterior brick wall was removed and a temporary plywood wall was erected in its place. The existing cardio room will be enlarged to become the new weight training room.
The retention pond was enlarged for additional storm water storage.
Excavation began on the southeast corner of Lakeview Fitness to create space for the building addition and to increase the size of the retention pond to account for more water storage.
More than a dozen Oak Tree saplings were saved during excavation and replanted in the Oak Savanna in Sullivan Woods. (see photos below)
Areas of the parking lot will be closed for demolition to make space for the addition of an expanded parking lot.
The pool closes on April 25 to begin the renovation to a 6-lane pool.
