Cicada Killer Wasp Notice

July 17, 2023

In July, the Cicada Killer Wasps will begin to emerge and can be spotted around the parks, especially within the sand volleyball courts and baseball infields. These large, intimidating wasps are uninterested in humans and don’t act aggressively unless threatened. The biggest danger these wasps pose is if stepped on by bare feet or handled roughly. Parks staff have scheduled extra field and sand volleyball grooming hoping the wasps will nest elsewhere. Parks staff will not be treating the wasps with any pesticides as the chemicals will cause harm to people and other animals.
