Go Green Vernon Hills & Lincolnshire is partnering with Vernon Hills Park District, SWALCO, and the Illinois Food Scrap & Composting Coalition (IFSCC)  during International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW). This is the largest and most comprehensive education initiative of the global compost community. It is celebrated every year during the first full week of May. This year’s theme is “For Healthier Soil, Healthier Food”.

On Sunday, May 7th, the Vernon Hills Park District is hosting a Free Compost Giveaway from 11 am-2 pm  in the Sullivan Community Center parking lot..

Bring your own bucket for free compost made right here in Illinois! There is a 20 gallon limit per household. Hosts will supply the shovels. SWALCO, Vernon Hills Park District, and Go Green Vernon Hills & Lincolnshire, will have displays and activities related to compost, including backyard composting, curbside composting and more.
