Coyote Warning

November 10, 2023

Fall is “dispersal” season for Coyotes. Mating season occurs in winter, and pup rearing into spring and summer. By fall, young coyotes become more independent and are forced to leave the pack and go out on their own. These young coyotes are naturally curious and are trying to find their way. Coyotes are an important part of the ecosystem and assist with controlling small mammal populations and are present within Vernon Hills. For your safety as well as your pet’s safety, please keep pets leashed at all times. Do not feed or attempt to trap coyotes. In case of encounters, make yourself large, make noises, and never turn your back while the coyote is actively watching.
