PALS Safe Center for Remote Learning
The Vernon Hills Park District has partnered with Hawthorn School District 73 to provide an in-person program for remote learning. The PALS Safe Center for Remote Learning is offered to Hawthorn School District 73 students in grades K-5. The purpose of this program is to provide working families an opportunity to enroll their children in a supervised, quality program, located in a quiet environment where they can safely complete their remote learning. The Park District is committed to following all COVID-19 guidelines as recommended by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Center for Disease Control.
This program is held at Townline School/School of Dual Language for all students except for the kindergartners that attend Hawthorn School for Young Learners. Those students will attend their kindergarten building.
Remote learning class time is held in the gymnasiums with desks spaced at least six feet apart from one another. There is a maximum of 50 students per gymnasium. Students must have a face mask, water bottle, and their school supplies (fully charged devices, headphones, charger, notebooks, pens and pencils, etc.) with them each day. Students’ regular school teachers will provide all remote learning. Students will be supervised by both Vernon Hills Park District staff and Hawthorn 73 paraprofessionals. Students will also have access to Hawthorn technology support should there be a need. Additionally, students will have supervised time for free play and will be separated into smaller groups.
Students must bring a lunch and snacks from home OR enroll in the School District’s meal program. Snacks must be in compliance with the Hawthorn Safe Snack list available on the School District website.
School District’s Meal Program: Breakfast and lunch is available through the School District’s meal program. Individually packaged breakfast and lunch meals will be available for consumption on site. Families must commit to the meal program for two weeks at a time. An order form will be sent out to all District families and participating families must indicate student participation in the PALS Safe Center for Remote Learning program on the meal program order form. The School District will charge student accounts for meals according to their meal status: paid, reduced, or free. If you have any questions regarding your student’s meal status, please contact Shari Niemesz via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 847-990-4272.
