Our Parks are for Pedals! Class 1 E-bikes

October 13, 2025

Class 1 e-bikes are welcome on Park District paths and trails.

Class 1 e-bikes are pedal assist, which means a person must pedal for the e-bike to go forward. There is no throttle. Once pedaling ceases, the e-bike will slow to a stop.  Class 1 e-bikes have motor support up to 20 mph.

Riders should always stay on the right side of the path, announce to others on the path when passing on the left, and yield to all pedestrians. For your safety, please wear a helmet, stay on the path, and avoid riding on the sidewalk or parkland.

These Wheels Take a Different Adventure – the following devices are restricted on District property, trails and  paths:

  • Class 2 e-bike – Pedal-assist and a throttle, which allows the motor to be engaged without pedaling. The maximum speed for both assist modes is 20 mph.
  • Class 3 e-bike – Soley pedal-assist (like Class 1 e-bike), but assistance continues until 28 mph.
  • Mini-bikes and trail bikes
  • Micro mobility devices including: ATVs, go-carts, power-driven scooters, power skateboards, mopeds, hoverboards, and segway

Love the outdoors!  Be safe, respect others, and care for our parks, paths, and trails.
