This park was the first to be developed of the three parcels of land donated by Zale Homes in Gregg’s Landing. The park was built in 2002 and completed in 2003. Its name was derived from Hawthorn Mellody Farms Dairy, which was located on that land and operated by the Cuneo Estate for many years. Nearly sixty percent of the funding needed to develop the land ($645,000) came from an OSLAD (Open Space and Land Acquisition Development) grant. The remaining forty percent was budgeted under the District’s Capital Improvement Fund. The park was officially dedicated to Vernon Hills residents in September 2003.
